We are seeking a Technical Director to join our event production team on our client's site in Sunnyvale, CA. This role provides hands-on leadership of the support and engineering teams servicing our clients executive event production needs. In this role you will be the primary event technical director for a newly launched 52,000 square foot event center, responsible for managing the daily theatrical operations of the venue, and occasional work in smaller venues. These operations include all audio visual equipment and systems, set up / take down of all events, converting the stage spaces to the next configuration and managing the labor associated with these events. You will serve as the primary liaison for the in-house producers, in-house video engineers, and external agencies to achieve the vision for each event.

You will have extensive experience as an event technical director for large-scale corporate events, with knowledge of theatrical systems & equipment (i.e. broadcast equipment, electrical, audio, lighting, carpentry, rigging).

Responsibilities:

  • Venue manager and resident expert regarding the technical systems, overseeing the operations of the in-house managed service provider. This includes testing, configuration, set-up, maintenance and operation.
  • Primary liaison for in-house producers, video engineers, and external agencies/production companies regarding technical matters. This requires both standard business hours, and evening/weekend hours, determined by the event needs.
  • Determine technical support needs, such as lighting, sound, staging and special needs necessary for events and performances in advance of production dates
  • Development and implementation safety procedures and guidelines for venue use. This includes crowd control and/or evacuation responsibility during emergencies in consultation with venue operations manager, building security and local authorities.
  • Assist with preparation and control of related annual budgets
  • Assist and collaborate in the procurement process of stage-related furniture, fixtures and equipment

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 7 years experience in all facets of event production and broadcast engineer
  • Deep technical knowledge of broadcast technology
  • Strong managerial abilities in dynamic and time sensitive production environments
  • Multitasking, management of several large and small productions at once
  • Ability to interface with demanding clients and to lead a support team to perform with excellence
  • Excellent written communication skills, including distillation of information to an executive level
  • Ability to thrive in a Service-oriented culture
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions
  • Professionalism and ability to be helpful and maintain composure under pressure 
  • Ability to work well in a broadcast team environment, including talent, producers and directors, under strict time deadlines
  • Expectation of complete confidentiality on all business matters

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • 5 years relevant experience working as a live event technical director for large-scale corporate events in a theatrical setting.
  • Significant experience with both broadcast and live events/theatrical equipment
  • Multitasking, management of several large and small productions at once
